2010 - 1 - 22XxWiLSoNxX's Mage guide
Hi all. I am XxWiLSoNxX (this is also my name in-game if u have any further questions) since I'm the only person that's made a guide directly from this wiki I've only made it brief cause nobody wants to be reading page after page, just to find how to make a good Mage (they are really simply but require HUGE amounts of SP , unfortunately, but they really do own so there worth every point you spend ^_^ )
General info on differences between witches and wizards:
Once Wizards get Terra Spear, (the first general skill you recieve) the majority of Mage skills before the class change then become useless. Witches still find them very useful, e.g. magic attacks such as Flame Storm, Energy Bolt + Cutter etc.
Wizards are much easier to level, but their skills are very basic, they use very high damage attacks to kill there enemies which is why they are called the masters of PvE and are normally recognized as the biggest threat in parties so monsters tend to attack them first. Witches can't solo very well until they get the skill 'Drain', simply because there damage skills are from lvl 1 - 30 and are not very strong against higher monsters without a good wand.
Witches, once they have 'Drain', can solo without using many potions, or any at all, due to the fact that they have 2 skills to gain Mana ( Mana Recovery + Transformation ) and Drain to gain hp making them cheap maintenance unlike there opposites (Wizards), who drink potions like an alcoholic does beer.
Although Wizards make a good PvP character by spamming there high damage attacks, they cannot compete against a good Witch, as there buff/debuff's can immobilize and prevent you from attacking and if you do get a chance to attack, your skills are weak due to from Stat Pull and Decay.
As you probably know already, Wizards use high damage skills to eliminate their opponents quickly where witches just buff + debuff you, making you an easy victory.
Leave a post if there's anything on this I have missed out =)
Through this guide I am not going to tell you what to do step by step because that will make the game boring for you. I will go through the skills (with a little info about them) underneath. I will say what is best for you to do with each skill until level 30, after then, you basically just max every skill for your job change!
General skills
Energy Bolt
This is a good skill to speed up your training, it is quite powerful for a lvl 1 skill with fast cooldown + Attack speed.
For both Witch + Wizard get this to lvl 4 but for witches you will find you really need the damage attack's at job change so you will want to max it immediately or when you get spare SP.
Energy Field
This is a personal dungeon skill. It can be very useful around lvl 15 - 20 for fast SP, which I shall explain in training section. It damages enemies around in a certain area in the dungeon so you can kill the big mobs faster, and linked with flame storm can get you really fast SP, which means faster maxed skills ^_^
Neither witch / wizard need this but I would advise to max it as it makes SP farming really easy once Sasquatches are insufficient.
Energy Cutter
This skill is similar to energy bolt except it's a fair amount stronger and its attack speed is slightly slower. It is again very useful for faster training and links very well with flame storm and energy bolt.
As said for energy bolt get this to lvl 4 and for witches you can max it when u get spare SP or max it ASAP.
Flame Storm
A quite powerful skill with AoE ( Area of Effect ) meaning it hits multiple monsters within range. Once leveled enough, it can mob monsters quite well (you get to level it at levels 15, 20, 25 and 30).
I would max this for all Mages since it is the only AoE skill until lvl 38 skill Flame Storm and links very well with other skills.
Curse
A spell that's only decreases movement speed but once maxed, makes your opponents run seem more like walking. It is a very good skill to have in PvP as it makes the tactic 'hit n run' a lot easier also makes a cowardly enemy unable to get away so fast, or if you are feeling cowardly, cast it on the enemy and run (trust me they will not catch you with this skill on them).
Another skill I would advise all Mages to max if you want to PvP.
Sloth
Sloth is a spell very similar to curse. It reduces attack speed rapidly once maxed and just imagine how annoying it would get once maxed and they are attacking you at the speed of a slug. Yeah, quite good, but now imagine it mixed with curse at the same time even if they catch you, in one hit you will be miles away from them.
Again, max this whether you go witch or wizard providing you want to PvP.
Mana Recovery
A very cheap spell, you cast it as a buff on yourself or someone else to recover yours or their Mana. It only costs 50 SP to max, but it is a really good skill to have around. It recovers Mana faster for int based characters like clerics etc. as their mp recovery is already good (they will love you in demon parties and etc with this skill). This is what made Mages known as Mana batteries!
Chakra Shield
This is your first buff that you will get. It increases the movement speed of the appointed character (Warning! in game it says increases evasion. Ignore that as it is not confirmed to be true).
Max this ASAP as you should prioritize your buff skills (everyone wants them in parties and they help yourself a lot).
Arch Enemy
Arch enemy is a strange skill. It is a short ranged, but fast skill with high damage. Sounds good so far, but it is not affected by 'haste' and when u get in your higher levels it becomes useless as you have to move close to your opponent.
ONLY get this leveled with your spare SP and DO NOT max it as it is a waste of SP when you get higher level.
Haste
Haste is an extremely good buff, as it increases the speed of skill casting and refresh time by a big amount when maxed. Only goes to lvl 2, but makes your spells attack almost instantly!
Again this is a buff so max it for all Mages. Any character using magic attack's love this skill even sorcerers want it on there summons.
Transformation
Converts HP into MP. It is a good skill. With this you no longer need many MP potions you can just use HP ones and keep 'Transforming' HP to MP very useful at higher level (When at lvl 5, it gives 300 MP each time at a price of only 200 HP, Less than a small HP pot! And at lvl 7 it gives 500 MP for only 300 HP). This is also the reason behind the saying 'You can never find a Mage without Mana came around'.
Personally I am going to max this skill, but getting level 4 then maxing it later is a good idea.
Scud
The third buff for Mages. This one increases your attack speed, but you cannot cast this buff on your friends and etc, only yourself (not much to say about this skill lol).
Its a buff so max it ASAP like the other ones.
Spell Focus
Last, but not least, is the 4th buff for Mages. it increases your Magical Hit Rate (which means less of a chance for missing) by a lot. If you want to see how much, attack a high level monster without it, then buff yourself with it and see for yourself =) (clerics + sorcerers love this buff ).
As you probably guessed, max this ASAP.
Nova Break
You need to max this skill anyway for your job change. It is a slow, high damage skill does not link very well with other spells. You are better off sticking with Flame Storm + Energy Bolt + Energy Cutter (optionally, you can add Arch Enemy if opponent is close ranged).
Note: I'm not going to take you through the passives. You should get them all to level 4 and max when you get the chance (except Anti-magic, as no monsters use magic attacks until higher levels) as they are all useful! (or if you wish, use the SP tricks explained at the bottom of the page to max them all!)

Training!
Level 1 - 7: Around this period foxes, wolfs, elder wolves and berserk wolves should be sufficient for your SP needs.
Level 8 - 11: Now go to north of Randol and you should be able to kill jaguars easily which give good SP.
Level 12-17: Amazing SP and easy kills, until level 18 when they go rubbish, at level 12 they give around 1950 Skill EXP!
(SASQUATCHES!) or at level 15 you can go into personal dungeon were you can get really good sSP fast if you leveled Energy Field.
Level 18-20: At the minute, I think little Treants are best because they give good SP and low EXP (at level 20 there is
a lot of skills to get so SP farm like crazy at this level) (or start the second personal dungeon quest which again is fast SP + EXP).
Level 20-30: I am not sure about this as my Mage is only level 18. I would say train on low EXP monsters and high SP, until you can max Scud and probably max as many skills possible because at level 25 there are only 2 skills to get so you get a lot of spare SP. After that, you need 300 + SP to max Nova Break and Spell Focus, plus you do not want be trying to max loads of skills when you got your job skills to get maxed as well!
Level 31+: Now this depends on your job change. If you went Wizard then go solo kill mobs but if you became a Witch, (my favorite) you will have a hard time leveling alone, so get an active guild and go in parties. Keep everyone buffed and Mana Recovery them and they will do the hard work for you. You should not
even need stone once you get it (personal dungeon is still good for fast sp).
SECRET SP TRICKS OF THE TRADE :
If you join a guild at level 12 (when Sasquatches give best SP in game) your GM (guild master) can cut your exp off so you can only gain SP!
If you SP farm until you have (or close to having) 99% Exp then go spend your skill points, try to use them all if possible, and get yourself killed until you have/almost have 0% (or just get your exp into -100% you can farm more before needing to kill yourself) Exp then you can start all over again. YAY =)
NOTE: Once Witches get drain it makes soloing easy, so as soon as you get drain go solo stuff!
